Authentic Homemade Pot Stickers Recipe - finished dish

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground pork
  • 2 cups finely chopped napa cabbage
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp minced fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1 package (about 50) round dumpling wrappers
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup water

For the Dipping Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp chili oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, napa cabbage, green onions, ginger, garlic, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, and white pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half over the filling and press the edges to seal, creating small pleats along one side.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the pot stickers in a single layer, flat side down. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden brown.
  4. Carefully pour the 1/2 cup of water into the skillet. Cover immediately and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let the pot stickers steam for 5-7 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through and the wrappers are tender.
  5. While the pot stickers are cooking, mix together the ingredients for the dipping sauce in a small bowl.
  6. Uncover the skillet and increase the heat to medium-high to evaporate any remaining water. Serve the pot stickers immediately with the dipping sauce.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground pork with ground chicken, turkey, or beef.
  • For a vegetarian option, use crumbled firm tofu and chopped mushrooms.
  • Uncooked pot stickers can be frozen on a baking sheet and then transferred to a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Cook from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the steaming time.
